Windpaint
Get started

Install

Install the windpaint CLI on macOS, Linux or Windows, then upgrade or remove it.

windpaint is a single static binary with no runtime dependencies. It generates images and video, uploads and downloads assets, and runs products against the same API as the dashboard.

Install

curl -fsSL https://get.windpaint.ai | sh

The script works on macOS and Linux, on amd64 and arm64. It downloads the release archive for your platform from GitHub releases, checks it against the release’s checksums.txt (SHA-256), and installs the binary. It needs curl or wget, tar, and sha256sum or shasum.

VariableDescription
WINDPAINT_VERSIONVersion to install, e.g. 0.1.0. Default: the latest release.
WINDPAINT_INSTALL_DIRWhere to put the binary. Default: /usr/local/bin if you can write to it, otherwise ~/.local/bin.
curl -fsSL https://get.windpaint.ai \
  | WINDPAINT_VERSION=0.1.0 WINDPAINT_INSTALL_DIR="$HOME/bin" sh

If the install directory isn’t on your PATH, the script says so. Add it to your shell profile, for example export PATH="$HOME/.local/bin:$PATH".

Other methods

Homebrew
brew install windpaint-ai/tap/windpaint

Windows

The install script doesn’t run on Windows. Download windpaint_<version>_windows_amd64.zip (or _arm64.zip) from GitHub releases, extract windpaint.exe, and put it in a folder on your PATH.

windpaint version

Verify

windpaint version
windpaint 0.1.0 (commit 3f9c2ab, built 2026-09-30T12:04:11Z, go1.25.0 darwin/arm64)

windpaint --version prints just the version number. Next, sign in.

Upgrade

windpaint doesn’t update itself. Upgrade the same way you installed:

Install script
# Installs the latest release over the existing binary
curl -fsSL https://get.windpaint.ai | sh

On Windows, replace windpaint.exe with the one from the new release. Your credentials and config in ~/.windpaint are kept across upgrades.

Uninstall

Remove the binary, then the config directory, which holds your saved credentials and settings:

Install script / manual
rm "$(command -v windpaint)"
rm -rf ~/.windpaint

On Windows, delete windpaint.exe and the .windpaint folder in your user profile (%USERPROFILE%\.windpaint).

Removing ~/.windpaint doesn’t revoke the API key that was saved there. Revoke it in the dashboard under Settings → API Keys if you no longer need it.
